OWC Express 4M2 Overview

The OWC Express 4M2 4-Slot M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure is designed to elevate your digital capabilities. Perfect for users working with audio, photography, video, and general data tasks, it allows for seamless ingestion and duplication of dailies, smooth navigation through demanding timelines, quick processing of thousands of photos, and much more. Equipped with four NVMe M.2 2280 SSD slots that use the PCIe 3.0 x1 bus, the Express 4M2 supports data transfer speeds of up to 2800 MB/s. It connects to your system via a 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 port, and includes a second Thunderbolt 3 port for additional peripherals or daisy-chaining. A DisplayPort 1.2 port is also included, allowing for support of up to two 4K / 60 Hz displays.

The Express 4M2 can be formatted for use with macOS 10.12 or later, or Windows 10 (32- and 64-bit), Windows 11, and Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022. It is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt, although notebook charging is not supported in these modes. The aluminum enclosure helps maintain cool operation, further supported by a 2800 rpm fan. Included in the package are a Thunderbolt 3 cable, a power supply, and a power cable.

For optimal performance and to avoid compatibility issues, it’s recommended that your system runs macOS 13.5 or later.

Connect to Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 Systems with Ease

The Express 4M2 is fully backward compatible with Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2, allowing you to utilize Thunderbolt 3’s full performance and seamlessly switch back to older versions when necessary. To connect to Thunderbolt 2, use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter along with the appropriate cables.

The Express 4M2 comes with a Thunderbolt-certified OWC Thunderbolt cable, compatible with both Mac and Windows systems. Additional cable lengths, from 1.6 to 6.6 feet, are available separately.

Other Requirements

To ensure proper operation with Mac Studio (M2 Max or M2 Ultra) or Mac Pro (M2 Ultra), macOS 13.5 or later may be required. Additionally, when using SSDs with 512-byte sectors, macOS 10.13 or later is required.
